Understand the basics

Coloring page terms, explained.

Short, plain-language definitions of the words you'll see around Cozy Bold Lines. No jargon, just what each term means and why it matters for coloring.

Bold outline

A thick, darker line that defines the edges of a coloring page’s shapes. Bold outlines are easy for young children to stay inside and satisfying for older colorists, which is why every page at Cozy Bold Lines uses them.

Line weight

How thick or thin a line is. Heavier (thicker) line weight reads better for coloring - it keeps pages easy to see at a glance and tidy when colored in. Our pages use a consistently bold line weight.

Closed shape

A section of a coloring page whose outline is fully connected, with no gaps. Closed shapes keep one color from bleeding into its neighbor, so finishing a page is cleaner and less frustrating.

Easy coloring page

A coloring page with bold outlines, simple shapes, and generous section sizes so it can be finished in one sitting. The opposite of a fiddly adult mandala with tiny detail work.

Printable coloring page

A coloring page file - here a PNG - you can download and print at home on your own paper. Ours are 1024 x 1024 pixels and print crisply at 100%.

Letter paper

The standard US printer paper size, 8.5 x 11 inches. All our pages print fine on letter paper at 100% with no cropping.

A4 paper

The standard printer paper size in most of the world, 210 x 297 mm. Our square pages print cleanly on A4 too using "fit to page" scaling.

Free coloring page

A coloring page you can download and print at no cost, with no account or email sign-up. Every free page at Cozy Bold Lines stays free, always.

Classroom license

The free-use permission that allows teachers to print unlimited copies of a page for their students. It covers single-classroom use, including art time and early finisher activities.
